Pomegranate

Project type

Oil on Canvas

Size

32x38

At first glance, this painting is simply a close-up study of a pomegranate, its jewel-like seeds exposed against the deep reds and earthy textures of the fruit’s outer shell. But the scale of the canvas changes the way we experience it. Painted on a large surface, the viewer is invited to step closer and examine a small fragment of nature from an entirely new perspective.

Perspective has a powerful influence on how we understand our experiences. When we are too close to something, it can become overwhelming, consuming our entire field of vision. This is often how trauma and addiction feel. The pain becomes magnified, and it can be difficult to see anything beyond the immediate moment.

The pomegranate serves as a reminder that what lies beneath the surface is often far more complex than what is first revealed. Inside this ordinary fruit is a hidden world of color, texture, and resilience. What appears broken open is actually an unveiling.

This piece reflects the process of healing: learning to step back, shift perspective, and recognize that even the most difficult parts of our story contain beauty, growth, and transformation.

I would also point out that the pomegranate is a particularly fitting symbol for addiction recovery because it has this duality: a tough outer skin protecting something fragile and precious inside. The exposed seeds almost feel like a moment of honesty or vulnerability, which fits this series well.
